Prostate Cancer: Prevention Tips

Prostate cancer has now been seen in younger men, especially in United States, also there is always the fear of it to reoccur. Early stage Prostate cancer is treatable but the man, who has had the prostate cancer, has his life never the same. There are steps men can take to maintain their prostate health and prevent prostate cancer.
Get Screened forProstate cancer:  Men should get regularly screened for prostate cancer with the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test. The tests give the information about the status of the disease and can help take the appropriate decision for a good health. Prostate cancer is usually identified in men who are in their fifties but now it has been found that the cancer is striking in men in their 30s. Regular testing is important as early stage cancer has no symptoms. The chances of beating prostate cancer can be increased if a proper diet regime and lifestyle is adopted.
Cancer Killing Foods:  Each time you have meal you are a step forward to beat prostate cancer. Choose cancer killing foods. These foods are easily available and we can include in our diet. These are Cruciferous vegetable for eg broccoli, kale, cabbage; these vegetables contain compounds called glucosinolates known as cancer killing compounds. Tomatoes are also cancer fighting, they contain lycopene. The other foods are Mushrooms, turmeric (Indian spices for cancer prevention), cayenne pepper and green tea- very effective to help you fight the cancer. Know about walnuts for prostate prevention.
Exercise: Of course exercises are good for health, but know that having done more exercise can slash the risk of prostate cancer. A University of California, San Francisco study found that vigorous exercise can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, and Kegel exercises are the best one for the prevention of prostate cancer.
Fish rich in Omega-3: Fish rich in Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer by 63 percent. It is enough to eat Omega-3 rich fish once a week. Sources of such fish are salmon, oysters, herring, anchovies, and tuna.

Garlic- Cancer Prevention

Raw Garlic can reduce the risk factors for lung cancer by 44 percent – a new study claims. Even if people have the habit of smoking, then too garlic can reduce the risk of lung cancer in those people by 30 percent. A survey has been held and it is found that 40,000 people get caught by lung cancer in England and Wales.
In China, it has been found that adults are regularly eating garlic in their diet and have 44 percent less chances of getting lung cancer. Smoking is the single cause of lung cancer but yet garlic is so effective that it can still cut down the risk of cancer by 30 percent. Garlic can defend the lungs against various malignancies. It can also protect us from bowel cancer. A study held at the University of South Australia claims that garlic can slash the risk of bowel cancer by nearly a third.
Scientist at Jiangsu Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention did the comparison between people who had lung cancer and the healthy adults, the participants were 1424 lung cancer patients and 4500 healthy adults. Their lifestyle and dietary habits were checked, also their garlic intake was estimated and whether they smoke or not or how often they do smoke. The results were published online in the Journal Cancer Prevention Research; the results showed that people eating raw garlic twice a week were less likely to develop lung cancer.
Garlic is good for heart too. A single bulb of garlic a day, keep diseases away. Garlic contains antioxidants and flavonoids, which is very healthy for both heart and body. Also Garlic has been used for many years for treating bites, wounds, headaches, pimple, measles, ulcers, tumors and many more. Garlic regulates the blood sugar. It has properties such as anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti viral so it helps keep infections like cold and cough away. Garlic fights obesity as it boosts our metabolism. It helps remove heavy metals such as lead and mercury from the body. But Asthma patients should not eat it.
You can eat garlic as raw or boiled before going to sleep. Take 2 or 3 cloves of it with a glass of water or milk. Do not consume more than 3 cloves of garlic as it can make your blood thinner.

Oral Cancer: Causes, symptoms and diagnosis.

What is oral cancer? The term oral cancer includes cancers of the mouth and the pharynx (the back of the throat).
Being a subtype of head and neck cancer, oral or mouth cancer generally involves the tongue. Most of them look very similar under the microscope. Such similar looking organisms are called squamous cell carcinoma.

Causes of oral cancer
Excessive Tobacco, smoking and alcohol:
Smoking, alcohol and other tobacco use are linked with about 75 percent of oral cancer cases, caused by irritation of the mucous membranes of the mouth from smoke and heat of cigarettes, cigars, etc. Most cases of oral cancer are linked to cigarette smoking, heavy alcohol use, or the use of both tobacco and alcohol together. Using tobacco plus alcohol poses a much greater risk than using either substance alone.

HPV:
Researches conducted by multiple peer reviewed journal articles indicate that HPV16 is the primary risk factor in this new population of oral cancer victims. HPV16 (along with HPV18) is the same virus which is responsible for the vast majority of all cervical cancers and is the most common sexually transmitted infection.

Age:
Age is another deciding factor. Risk increases with age. Oral cancer most often occurs in people over the age of 40.
Diet:
Diet again is a very important factor, that helps the cancer cell to grow or develop. A diet low in fruits and vegetables may play a role in oral cancer development.

Symptoms of oral cancer
Any lesion or ulcer in the following places that does not go away in 2 weeks:
• On the tongue, lip, or other mouth areas (Most often pale colored, be dark or discolored)
• Early sign may be a white patch (leukoplakia) or a red patch (erythroplakia) on the soft tissues of the mouth
• Behind the wisdom tooth
• Sometimes behind the ear

Diagnosis and oral cancer exam

An oral cancer examin helps in detecting early signs of cancer. The exam is painless and takes only a few minutes. During the exam, the doctor checks the face, neck, lips, tongue, mouth, and the back of the throat for possible signs of cancer.

There are a variety of screening devices that may assist dentists in detecting oral cancer, including the Velscope, Vizilite Plus and the identafi 3000.

Low public awareness of the disease is a significant factor, but these cancers could be found at early highly survivable stages through a simple, painless, 5 minute examination by a trained medical or dental professional.

Sleep and Diabetes: How are they related?

Your blood sugar level and sleeping patterns go hand in hand. Sleep can affect your blood sugar levels and your blood glucose control can also affect your sleep, which results in trouble sleeping.
Difficulty getting a good night’s rest could be a result of a number of reasons, from hypos at night, to high blood sugars, sleep apnea, being overweight or signs of neuropathy.

The Connection Between Lack of Sleep and Diabetes

“There is some evidence that sleep deprivation could lead to pre-diabetic state,” says Mark Mahowald, MD, director of the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center in Hennepin County.

According to Mahowald, the body’s reaction to sleep loss can resemble insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes. Insulin’s job is to help the body use glucose for energy. In insulin resistance, cells fail to use the hormone efficiently, resulting in high blood sugar.

Symptoms
Diabetes occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells do not properly use the insulin. When insulin is not doing its job, high blood sugar levels build in the body to the point where they can lead to diabetic symptoms such as- thirst, can also harm the eyes(leading to blurred vision), kidneys(frequent urination), nerves, or heart(fatigue).

Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes

Researchers found that the men who slept 10 hours a night over the three-day period — in effect, getting catch-up sleep after a week of short sleep — had improved insulin sensitivity than when they were sleep-deprived.

Having good insulin sensitivity is vital to preventing Type 2 diabetes. When a person has good insulin sensitivity, it means that his or her body only requires just enough insulin for the body’s cells to take up sugar in the blood; when a person becomes insulin resistant, it means more insulin is required for the body’s cells to take up sugar. When this happens, high levels of sugar remain in the blood — a significant risk factor for diabetes.

But while catching up on sleep on the weekends may hold a diabetes benefit for men, it doesn’t come without its consequences. Studies have also shown that getting more sleep on the weekends to make up for lost sleep over the week can make your general sleep worse, since it messes with your natural circadian rhythms, pointed out HuffPost blogger Michael Breus, Ph.D.

The best idea? Try to get enough ZZs every night.

Breast Implants All that you need to know about it

Before Breast Implants (When):
Suitability:
Not everyone is suitable for breast implant surgery. Your surgeon will need to take a detailed look at your medical history and overall health.
Most women who have breast implants for cosmetic purposes pay to have the operation done privately. The NHS rarely funds cosmetic breast implant surgery.
Currently, the average cost of having breast implants in the UK is in the region of £4,000 – £5,000. However, the cost will vary depending on the treatment center you choose.
After Breast Implants:
You will experience some pain, swelling and bruising immediately after breast implant surgery.
Your chest may feel tight and your breathing may be restricted. This is normal and your symptoms will start to improve over the next few weeks.
Going home:
After having breast implant surgery, you may either be allowed home the same day or you may need to stay in the hospital or clinic overnight.
On returning home, you will need rest to give your body time to recover. Avoid excessive use of your arms and chest area as it may cause irritation and bleeding.
Additional surgery:
After having breast implant surgery, about one in three women will require further surgery within 10 years of their initial operation.
Additional surgery may be needed as a result of complications such as capsular contracture (hardening of the scar capsule around the implant, see below), age-related changes to the breast (sagging) or the shell of the implant rupturing (splitting).
Results:
There is strong scientific evidence to suggest that having breast implants will not increase your risk of developing breast cancer. However, it is still important for women over 50 to attend breast screening appointments when invited.

Correlation between weight loss and diabetes

Weight loss can occur for many reasons. It can be either voluntary (on purpose) or involuntary (not on purpose). It is due to one of three causes: decreased calories being consumed, increased calories being used, or loss of calories in the urine or stools. Voluntary weight loss is a sign of good health for patients who are overweight. It is usually due to significant attempts at eating less and exercising more.

Involuntary weight loss can be a sign of serious underlying illness. Causes of involuntary weight loss can either be associated with decreased appetite or increased appetite.

If the involuntary weight loss is associated with increased calorie intake patients often have increased appetite or thirst. These causes include intestinal disorders that cause lack of absorption of food (like chronic diarrhea), endocrine disorders that cause the body to burn more energy (like hyperthyroidism), and uncontrolled diabetes, which cause the body to lose excess calories by spilling sugar into the urine.

Diabetes is a disorder of elevated blood sugars. Sugars become quite elevated before the diagnosis is made. As the blood sugar level goes up, the body cannot reabsorb all of the sugar that is naturally filtered through the kidneys. So the sugar is spilled in the urine.

The higher the sugar level, the more sugar is spilled into the urine. This causes people who have very high sugars to be very thirsty, and to have to urinate very frequently. Patients will often have sudden significant weight loss associated with these symptoms. These same patients will be so thirsty they will often drink sugary drinks (such as sodas, juices or sweetened coffee drinks) which causes the sugars to be even higher, and the weight loss to be more severe. It can become a sudden dangerous cycle.

In a frustrating outcome, a long-term weight-loss program/diet to control diabetes aimed at overweight adults with diabetes didn't cut the rate of heart attacks and strokes, a major study showed. But losing weight did provide at least one major benefit by cutting the development of chronic kidney disease, a leading cause of premature death in people with type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

If you suddenly develop significant involuntary weight loss, especially associated with significant thirst or an increased need to urinate, it is critical to see a health care provider as soon as possible.
